Books have always been used the same way throughout history. They were used primarily to store and record information which readers can retrieve later when the need for that information arises. However, the rise in the popularity of e-ink and tablets has paved the way for the creation and digitalization of content. This has made a significant impact on the role of books as repositories of information as more and more people are switching to e-books and online sources of content.

One particular artist who was very vocal about this new trend is Canadian interdisciplinary artist Guy Laramée. But unlike other artists who chose to express their thoughts through common mediums, Laramée takes the issue of books versus technology a notch higher by carving his sculptures out of real books. According to Laramée his carved landscapes represent the erosion of “culture” that is happening in today’s generation of readers.

Halloween is less than a week away and I’m very excited. It’s that time of year I can get dressed up in a spooky outfit and celebrate the scary festivities. In this little round-up I bring you 22 super creative pumpkin carvings or Jack-o-Lanterns to give them their proper name. It is not certain how the custom of making Jack-o’-Lanterns at Halloween came about. However, it is thought to come from the British Isles, where turnips or beets were previously used. Turnip lanterns, sometimes with faces carved into them, were made on the Gaelic festival of Samhain (31 October–1 November) in the 19th century in parts of Ireland England and the Scottish Highlands. Samhain was a time when fairies and spirits were said to be active. The purpose of these lanterns may have been threefold. They may have been used to light one’s way while outside on Samhain night; to represent the spirits and otherworldly beings; and/or to protect oneself and one’s home from them.

I could not believe these book cutting sculptures. Because it is really very difficult to cut the papers to get the shape of human face. and each paper has different size and comparing previous paper, then cutting is not easy. It looks like realistic face, in which the lip and teeth are properly created. To most people, making a paper plane could be one of the simplest thing to do. It’s the simplest and easiest form of paper art, for this case a flying art. However, there’s a special minority who takes thing to the next level. They can turn the basic form of origami – which is folding a paper in half – together with a little cutting, folding, bending, shaping, and more paper folding, into an utmost creative artwork you have ever seen.
