Russia announces new $50 billion space program

Russia is celebrating its Day of Cosmonautics in grand fashion today. President Vladimir Putin has announced a new multi-year plan to develop the country's spacefaring efforts, which will be funded to the tune of some 1.6 trillion roubles (just over $50 billion) between now and 2020. Underlining Russia's proud heritage of space exploration and engineering, Putin describes this new drive as being instrumental to Russia's economic competitiveness as well as maintaining its position as a leading space power...

Will China overtake America in space?

China's space plans are ambitious, incremental and extensive. Should Americans be worried that China will overtake us in both space exploration and military capability in space?

No, not yet.

This week, China successfully achieved its first manned space docking with the launch of the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft that carried two men and China's first female astronaut. Part one of China's Project 921, a 30-year plan for space exploration that was approved in 1992, is complete. This is progress, indeed.

Software We Use But Hate

Many of us spend a large chunk of our day on the computer. So, when you add up all that time—at home, at school, at work, and on commutes—it's not surprising that we occasionally get frustrated with something on our laptops or desktops. No system is perfect (no, not even a Mac), nor is any peripheral or gadget. And don't get us started on apps and OSes. Actually, let's do sound off.

There are computer-related annoyances that we deal with daily, and most of them have to do with software. Perhaps it's a constantly-crashing Chrome that makes a simple Google search take five times as long. Or maybe it's the sluggishness of iTunes and its annoying sync issues. These are problems we simply put up with because there's not really a better alternative.

YouTube opens Partner program to all: every creator in 20 countries can now monetize video

YouTube's long been a good friend to video producers who create popular content. They become Partners, gain exclusive privileges, and can choose to run advertising on their videos for a cut of the resulting profit. Only now, YouTube has dropped that "popular" requirement, as detailed on the YouTube Creators blog. If you've got a single piece of qualifying content and are in one of 20 countries now enrolled in the program, you can choose to monetize it immediately and become a Partner on the spot.
