This is it. It is almost upon us, the dreaded date feared by doomsday theorists. The date described as when the world will end and we shall be no more… based on a Mayan calendar. But let’s not ruin the mood. The End of the World notion is not new. Doomsday prophecies have littered our histories for as long as we can remembered.

20 Prodigious End of the World Artworks
It is a strange thing why so many people are interested in predicting the end of the world. I remember since my nursery days, I am hearing rumors that our world is going to end next week or next month. Thankfully none of such prophecies have proved right.
Nowadays a rumor is being circulated that our world is going to end this year i.e. in 2012. They say that the Linear Mesoamerican Long Calendar predicts that the apocalypse is set to take place in December 2012. Many theories are doing the rounds – earth is going to be sucked up by a black hole or maybe an asteroid is going to collide with earth and will mark the end of the human civilization as it ended the life of dinosaurs; God is going to rise from heaven and is going to punish us all for all our bad deeds; tectonic plates will go berserk and will kill all civilization and so on and so forth. Don’t go on quitting your job and start spending away all your savings because none of these theories are scientifically acceptable. These matters are good for entertainment and chat after dinner but have no real implications.
