Virginia quake resulted in 5,500 tweets per second

When a 5.8-magnitude quake struck in Virginia on Tuesday, Twitter users ramped things up a notch, sending out 5,500 tweets a second. A Flickr user has shown the activity via an animated map.

Every time a major event happens in the world these days, it’s only a matter of seconds before Twitter starts fizzing as people jump online to start spreading the news and sharing experiences.
